Dr. Adam Brown’s Center For Global Mental Health

The New School Center for Global Mental Health works to reduce global disparities in mental healthcare through research, education, and innovation. We collaborate with international partners to design, evaluate, and implement evidence-based interventions in communities affected by conflict, displacement, poverty, and climate change. By adapting World Health Organization programs and building local capacity, we promote sustainable, context-specific mental health solutions.

About The Mental Health Interventions

  • Problem Management Plus (‎‎‎‎‎‎PM+)‎‎‎‎‎‎

An evidence-based program developed by the World Health Organization, PM+ is based in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for individuals and groups. It teaches practical skills like problem-solving, stress management, social connection, and behavioral activation to help people cope with everyday psychosocial challenges.

  • Self-Help Plus (SH+)

A five-session stress management course for groups developed by the World Health Organization, SH+ is a guided self-help intervention based in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). It teaches strategies like grounding, unhooking from negative thoughts, connecting with personal values, and building emotional flexibility.
